Rebranding Greece by Peter Economides

branding: the act of giving a company a particular design or symbol in order to advertise its products and services

reebranding: if a company rebrands itself or a product or service that it provides, it creates a new name or image for it

image:  a picture in your mind or an idea of how someone or something is

debt: something, especially money, which is owed to someone else, or the state of owing something 

default: to fail to do something, such as pay a debt, that you legally have to do

public sector:  businesses and industries that are owned or controlled by the government

fraud: the crime of getting money by deceiving people   

fraudsters: someone who gets money by deceiving people

body language: the movements or positions of your body that show other people how you are feeling, even though you do not tell them in words

impressions: an idea or opinion of what something is like

corruption: illegal, bad or dishonest behaviour, especially by people in positions of power

manage:  to succeed in doing something, especially something difficult

leader: a person in control of a group, country or situation

leadership: the set of characteristics that make a good leader       



What way Peter Economides suggests Greece should change in order to step out of the crisis they are facing?


According to Mr.Economides a brand is making up of individuals. The branding of a country is the same in every way with the things branding because the principles are the same. The way out of the crisis is our nation’s image.
Now Greeks are the bad guys of the E.U, but unfortunately, we are to blame for that. Brand is what people think for you but rebranding is different because the second one refers to the process of brand.
Greece now is a brand that never been branding. Europe now call us fraudsters and we no longer the mother of the Mediterranean Sea. They imply with their own way that they no longer need Greece.
Now the question is how do we move from what we are to what we were?
We are Greeks and we can imagine our future. We have to dip into Greece to reignite the flame, to speak about it. We all know that we the heart of the Mediterranean .This is what we have to express and be inspired of.  The happy times in Greece should be parked. Not vanished but we have a serious problem.  We have to be like Apollonian, strong and active. Our own branding logo should be ours and not being changed every single moment. It’s our ID.  Greece changed that 14 times. This is not branding.  Reset is the key word. Our nation should be taken as a brand. The impression that people have now about Greece must change.   Having a strong brand you have a strong impression. For example we should stop selling our tourism.
Branding is like connecting dots. Step by step, all creating a powerful, compelling narrative line, which guides behaviors and shapes images.   
A nation is like an iceberg. We see only the top but the top looks like what the bottom is.
We should approach the Diaspora, Greek friends and media. We should cooperate with these people and bring out the right image of out place. A good idea to be is to use Facebook too.
Simple is harder. Our future is in our hands.  Imagine the way out of this crisis. This is time to IMAGINE.
